“The cottage is newly renovated and combines modern conveniences with a traditional village cottage. It is lovely styled with pieces of local art through the house. The beds are really comfortable, the baths are top modernized and everything works great – didn’t find that in all the places we have been before in the UK. The heating is modern and works well, The kitchen has everything you could ask for. We found everything clean and Gerry will hep you with everything you need or want to ask. He takes care of the cottage and runs a B&B just down the street.
Portnahaven is just a darling little village and the cottage is right at the center of it. At night you can see the lighthouse flashing from your bedroom window and hear the seals in the harbour.
Definitely a place to come back again.”

“I was in desperate need of a relaxing break from a ridiculously stressful job and boy did I pick the right place. The cottage is in the perfect location – quiet, beautiful, scenic and friendly. It has been done up in a contemporary style which is perfect for holiday use. Tons of space (the photos don’t do it justice… it’s huge), light and airy, very warm and comfortable. Everything you could possibly need has been thoughtfully included – places to hang wet clothes, utility area, separate sitting spaces, log fire, great wifi/TV, fully functional kitchen, spanking new modern bathrooms, masses of hot water. One of the nicest places I’ve stayed.
The locals are really friendly (I kept wondering why EVERYONE waves at you as you pass in your car then realised they were just being welcoming) and helpful. They’re happy to share local bird sightings, things to visit, or generally shoot the breeze. I was there to specifically photograph birds and boy did I see some amazing sights. The White Tailed Eagle flying over my head was the highlight.”

“Yardarm Cottage is a little bit of heaven on Islay. Stunning location. Beautiful refurbished home with great amenities – everything we could have wanted or needed at hand. Sparkling clean. Loved the welcome basket and the local Islay touches in artwork, and local soaps. Great booklet of local knowledge helped us plan our stay. Super WiFi connection too, for those who want to be in a disconnected location, but with a great connection!
If you’re unfamiliar with Islay itself, I promise it won’t disappoint. We’re already planning when to come back!”

“Yardarm cottage is a great place to stay in a really beautiful location on Islay. The house is very well equipped and comfortable. Portnahaven is a lovely village and we were able to see seals in the harbour from our bedroom window!
The cottage is a great base for exploring Islay is within 45 minutes drive of the furthest distillery (with many others closer). There are good coastal walks and beautiful beaches on the west side of the island not far from the cottage.
Our host was very helpful and supplied lots of useful information and tips before our stay, and was on hand while we were at the cottage.
Everyone in the village was really friendly and welcoming and we had a great week.”

“This was our second time at Yardarm Cottage, and we had another great stay. The
cottage is sparkling clean, has great modern amenities, plenty of room for everyone, brilliant (and hilarious) welcome book with local tips on what to do and see, and, in my opinion, the most picturesque and welcoming location on Islay in Portnahaven.
Portnahaven has a small shop within walking distance which carries essentials and a little bit more! There is also a local pub within walking distance which also serves meals. Islay itself has so much to do that we spent another week without repeating anything we did last year. Check the welcome book for great recommendations for what to do and see during your stay. Hosts are extremely helpful and accommodating. Thanks again for
another great stay Yardarm, we’re already planning a return trip next year!”
